How the world reacted?

The Times – European Union Intelligence Report

According to the European Union Intelligence Report:

- The coup attempt was just a catalyst for pre-made oppression.

- The great wave of arrests in the days following the coup attempt had been prepared in advance.

- Turkey's intelligence agency, MIT, began compiling lists of "problematic people" years ago.

- The names of the "civil activists" who participated in the anti-Erdogan protests in Istanbul Gezi Park in 2013 were also included in the lists.

Many would argue that Turkey is currently in the throes of a slow-motion blow by Erdogan himself, not by the military.

For the past three years, Erdogan has been moving regularly (methodically) to seize all power nodes.

Johannes Hahn – European Commissioner for Budget and Administration

“The government seems to have prepared a list of those to be arrested before the coup attempt.”

“I am very worried. This is exactly what we were afraid of."

"There are lists, which means that something was ready beforehand and would be used at a certain stage."

Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein – United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights

“Those responsible for the violence during the coup attempt must be held responsible for their actions.”

Ravina Shamdasani, Spokesperson of Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein:

“Under international human rights law, there is a very high threshold for the dismissal or removal of judges.”

“The judges clearly serve a very important purpose, especially in the aftermath of this coup attempt.”

“The case of each judge must be assessed independently and individually before being removed or suspended from their duties.”

“We are also concerned that judges are suspended en masse and are not allowed to be assessed individually.”

General Curtis Michael Scaparrotti – SACEUR

"These officers provided important services to NATO. I was working with talented and competent people here and now I see a weakening of my team in terms of talent, expertise and throughput."

"I do not believe that the officers suspended from their duties in NATO took part in the events of 15 July".

“I am worried about what's happening to the people who worked here with us. I also conveyed my concerns about the proper treatment of these people within the framework of the rule of law to General Akar. I conveyed my concerns (to Akar) about the treatment to be made to these people and their families. These concerns are about officers I know who, at this stage, have no idea how their futures will take shape. So yes, I am worried. "

"According to CIA and BND reports, Erdogan is behind the failed coup."

"According to CIA analyses, the so-called coup attempt was staged by Erdogan to prevent a real coup."

"CIA and other intelligence services are capable of infiltrating the most confidential communication systems and, according to their knowledge, July 15 is a fictional coup d'etat."

Turkey's Post-Coup Purge and Erdogan's Special Army

The Turkish President has mercilessly cleared his high-ranking personnel and is building a new army with some strange allies.

One year after the 15 July 2016 coup attempt, the Turkish Army, once Muslim-dominated, the pillar of secularism and the second largest force in NATO, lost its Kemalist power.

The generals, who survived the great purges that followed that fateful night, unmurmuringly agreed to send troops to Syria - where they once resisted - out of fear of Erdogan's vengeful wrath.

What we know for sure is that the Turkish army today is not what it used to be. Turkey has lost some of its brightest and best generals. The Turkish Army has lost blood.

Conspiracy theorists claim that the attempt to seize the power was fraudulently made by Erdogan.

Social media users claim that Erdogan will use the coup attempt as Hitler used the Reichstag Fire to suppress all opposition.

We'll probably see an early election where he will try to secure an incredible majority of the votes. And this will probably guarantee Erdogan's "elected dictatorship" of 10-15 years.

Turkey purged its military envoys in NATO after the failed coup attempt.

In the aftermath of the coup attempt in July, Turkey fired hundreds of senior military personnel serving in NATO in Europe and the United States, and expanded its purge to include the best-trained soldiers of the armed forces.

Although the number of those who were dismissed is a small fraction of the 100,000 judges, police, teachers and soldiers who were purged after the failed coup attempt, the targeting of some of the most highly educated personnel in these prestigious foreign missions underscores the depth of Erdogan's liquidation decision.

However, as Erdogan was trying to establish closer ties with Russia, the Cold War-enemy of the alliance, the removal of the NATO personnel after this failed coup raises questions about Turkey's strategy.

After the coup attempt, it will be bloody and oppressive in Turkey.

As with many coups around the world, the results of the coup attempt in Turkey will be bloody and oppressive.

It will be the rule of a gang rather than the rule of law that will shape Turkish politics and society.

More than 1,000 members of the armed forces were arrested and more than 2,000 judges dismissed.

Pro-government gangs ruthlessly attacked anyone they perceived to be anti-Erdogan or anti-government. There are darker days ahead for Turkey.
