Who Were the Snipers in Nakkaştepe?

Who Were the Snipers in Nakkaştepe?

The presence of snipers in Nakkaştepe, a point close to the Bosphorus bridge, is confirmed by the statements of the accused and witnesses. Let's give some examples of these expressions.

In his defense, suspect Turgay ÖDEMİŞ (Lieutenant Colonel): "... There was also frequent shooting from the opposite side, and a bullet hitting my phone, which was located under the belt on the left front, injured me..." (pp. 738-739). "Firing started from Nakkaştepe, intermittently, one by one and serial shots were being made." "... Fires were coming from the place where a large Turkish flag, known as Nakkaştepe, was flying. There were intermittent and rapid shots. I put the students and soldiers in a trench under the military vehicles we deployed so that they would not be injured.

In addition, 2 Kanas sniper guns were found in Nakkaştepe. The Kanas gun fires 7.62 mm bullets. It is the same as the gun in the military. Isn't it possible that the victims, who had 7.62 mm bullet marks on their bodies as a result of the autopsy, were shot with this weapon? Why hasn't the ballistic analysis of these weapons been done?

Another example. Let's see how the civilian person named Hikmet AKINCI (p. 381), who stated that he was injured in his left hand on the bridge, gave his statement. "...that night, around 24:00, we walked to the bridge with the civilians. I was injured in my left hand when the civilians were fired upon from Nakkaştepe." As can be seen, this person was shot by those who fired towards civilians from Nakkaştepe.

In his statement, the complainant Faruk DAYI: "While I was in front of the Highways Traffic Team Department, I was shot in the head and got wounded in the head..." (p. 348). There were no soldiers stationed on the hill. Who was shooting from there? How many people did they shoot?

The statements of the accused and the complainants reveal that there were elements that fired both soldiers and civilians with sniper weapons from the direction of Nakkaştepe. In this context, let's remember the 7 innocent people (military student, private) who were killed by lynching with the provocation of these elements and look at the bridge from this perspective.
