THE SOLDIER AND CIVILIANS WERE WANTED TO BE FACED OFF
AT 21.30, POLICEMEN WORKING IN DIFFERENT UNITS WERE IN THE TRT REGION
At the court where the events in the TRT Region were addressed, the questions asked to the complainants: "Did you call the police before and after the arrival of the soldiers, did you hear that there was someone calling?" Upon these questions, all complainants answered, "no, we did not call, we did not hear that there was someone calling.”
Interestingly, although TRT officials did not call the police, it was revealed by Police Officer Metin Koç that the police officers working in different units were in the TRT Oran region as of 21.30. There were actually police officers who came to the area earlier, but we specify 21.30 because it was mentioned in the statements of the complainants.
THE PEOPLE WERE INCITED AGAINST THE SOLDIERS
In the statements of the complainants, it is understood that instead of intervening in the situation, the arriving police made an effort to incite the gathered civilians to the soldiers. The same scene, as evidenced by concrete evidence, was experienced in almost every place that an event took place that evening just like at the General Staff Headquarters.
Despite the fact that on the evening of July 15, TRT officials evaluated at around 21.00-21.30 that "FE.. had attempted a coup" (!), they did not take any preventive measures and did not call the police. Also, some police officers were in the area at least 1-1.5 hours before the arrival of soldiers, and the police did not intervene in the arrival of the soldiers, which was clearly stated in the statements of the complainant Osman Şahin and the witness Abdullah Gürhan. In addition, it was revealed that the police tried to organize the people against the soldiers and pushed the people forward towards the soldiers even though they receded backwards when the soldiers fired warning shots to the air. These were recorded as enough evidence to prove that there was a game planned and played that evening.
TRT EMPLOYEES WERE MORE AFRAID OF THE UNCONTROLLED CROWD THAN THE SOLDIERS
Another situation that emerged is that TRT employees, including private security guards, were more afraid of the civilians entering the TRT building that evening than the soldiers.
The fact that TRT private security officers fled to the 5th floor of the building when they saw the crowd explains without comment what kind of fear the crowd entering TRT created that night. The statements given also revealed that TRT private security guards took precautions against theft and looting of this mob in the following hours.
SOLDIERS WERE TELLING US, “TAKE CARE SO NOTHING HAPPENS TO YOU”
The statements of TRT employees, Nihan Cabbaroğlu, Burcu Uçar and Hamdi Emir Haliloğlu, are also important in terms of explaining the nature of the civilian group that entered the TRT building that evening, the attitude of the soldiers and the situation they faced.
Cabbaroglu: "Civilians damaged the building. We got scared and went to a room inside."
Uçar: "The civilians broke the doors. They were coming with sticks in their hands. We were very afraid and we directed them to another place because there was no broadcasting here. We did not see any violence from the military. There was no putschist attitude in the soldiers. Be careful, they said, nothing should happen to you."
Haliloğlu: "There were drunk citizens around wearing torn, shabby, dirty clothes. The people had cutting tools and sticks in their hands. We were very scared."
The statements of the complainants made it clear that there were people with sticks and cutting tools in their hands among the mob that entered TRT, and that there were people who were drunk and intoxicated who were constantly leading the group.
The fact that some injuries were caused by buckshot also indicates that there were gun-bearers in the crowd. As a matter of fact, while the defendants clearly stated that they saw people carrying shotguns and firing at them, some complainants stated that they saw armed people in the civilian group and thought of them undercover policeman.
With all their responsibility and good intentions, the soldiers did not shoot at such a crowd that came towards them, and did not allow one of the disasters desired by those who planned and staged July 15 to occur in the TRT region. There had been those who fired into the air for warning purposes only, which was within the limits of the military's training and the law granted to the soldier. As a result, since there were no deaths or intentional injuries in the TRT region, it has become clear with the statements of the complainants that the soldier did not shoot on target.
In this context, when the complainants were asked "what would happen if the soldiers aimed at you from a distance of 10-15 meters with a G3 infantry rifle or a pistol or a machine gun,” complainants stated that sometimes the distance with the soldiers was as short as 2-3 meters, so if that would be the case there would be a lot of deaths.
The soldiers, who were presented as murderous and desperate putschists, did not open fire to the public that evening, did not become a tool for provocation, and acted with common sense. Contrary to the perception that was tried to be created, the reality showed this and the Guard Regiment was not on TRT with the intention of making a coup.
