The Meeting Between Akp Member Of Parliament Şirin Ünal And Air Force Commander Abidin Ünal Before July 15 Was Also Concealed

The inconsistencies and ambiguities in the statements, attitudes, and behaviors of the commanders at the top of the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) on the night of July 15 increased the confusion and chaos within the TAF. This series of suspicious behaviors and omissions that give the impression of intent could be considered an indication that the TAF command  had prior agreements with the "Civil Bureaucracy."

An event that drew attention and still remains shrouded in mystery was the visits made by AKP Member of Parliament Şirin Ünal to the then-Air Force Commander Abidin Ünal and Chief of General Staff Hulusi Akar on July 13 at the Air Force Command and on July 15 at the General Staff Headquarters. These visits were concealed.

Şirin Ünal is a retired major general from the Air Force and an AKP member of parliament who had direct meetings with Hulusi Akar before July 15, provided blacklisting lists of military personnel and generals, and in short, acted as a mediator between the AKP and Hulusi Akar.

When we examine Şirin Ünal's traffic of meetings before and on July 15, we encounter very interesting details. On July 12, 2016, Şirin Ünal arrived at the hotel in Marmaris where the President was staying, and on July 13, 2016, he met with the then-Air Force Commander Abidin Ünal at the Air Force Command without following protocol. On July 15, 2016, he held a private meeting with then-Chief of General Staff Hulusi Akar at the General Staff Headquarters. Why were these meetings concealed?

During the trial, one of the defendant's lawyers, Ayten İzmirli, asked Abidin Ünal, "Why is Şirin Ünal's name saved as Şenol in your phone? Is there something secret?" Abidin Ünal could not provide an explanation for this.

During questioning at the court, the defendant Cemil Turhan confirmed with Abidin Ünal that Şirin Ünal was the source of the blacklisting lists.

Defendant Cemil Turhan asked, "Can you confirm that the fourth source, who had direct meetings before July 15 and provided lists about military personnel and generals, was Şirin Ünal?" Abidin Ünal confirmed this.

Akar's Order To Delete His Meeting With Şirin Ünal From The Records On July 15

It emerged that AKP Member of Parliament Şirin Ünal had a nearly two-hour meeting with Hulusi Akar at the General Staff Headquarters on July 15, 2016, and this meeting was deleted from the meeting records by Hulusi Akar's order. Is it normal for an AKP member of parliament to hold private meetings with both Abidin Ünal and Hulusi Akar just before July 15 and try to keep them secret? Are these back-to-back and concealed meetings by Şirin Ünal evidence of secret preparations before July 15? On the other hand, is it a coincidence that Şirin Ünal spent the night of July 15 with the President after meeting with Hulusi Akar?
