On July 15, AKP District Center Used as a Police Station

July 15 remains fresh in the public's memory, marked by hundreds of unanswered questions and inconsistencies. The way the police, the official and armed force of the state tasked with suppressing the so-called coup attempt, responded to the events that night caused manycivilian casualties. Notably, in Istanbul and Ankara, thousands of firearms were distributed to citizens called into the streets, many of whom had no weapons training. Citizens were directed by police to areas of confrontation, where soldiers and civilians were brought face- to-face,leading to preventable deaths.

Soldiers Were Taken to the AKPDistrict Center

The testimony of Süleyman Saygılı, a police officer in the District Police Department, as a witness at the 23rd High Criminal Court revealed another interesting incident that happened that day. Saygılı testified that they intercepted armored military vehicles departing from Mamak and handed over the soldiers inside to the Mamak AKP District Center. It remains unclear why the police delivered the soldiers to the AKP District Center instead of a police station, to whom they were handed over, and whether there were any special reasons behind this.

Saygılı further stated that 'Commissioner Mehmet Sarıca, along with police officers Zafer Malkoçoğlu and Musa Yağ, boardedthe military armored vehicle they had seized, taking a few other individuals with them, and first went to the Parliament, then to the General Staff Headquarters, and subsequently to the General Command of the Gendarmerie.'

It remains unclear why the police drove the armored vehicle to various locations instead of securing it in a safe place when it was obvious that they could have become targets of the public and provoked the public. It was revealed that no investigation or inquiry had been conducted to whether the police officers in question had been involved in any crime with the militaryarmored vehicle or if they were responsible for damaging other vehicles in their path.

The actionsof these policeofficers, both in using the AKP DistrictCenter as a police stationand in their conduct with the seized military armored vehicle, raised suspicions about whether there was a perception study to incite public reaction against the military.
